The next meeting of the Standing Committee of the trilateral mechanism on Sweden and Finland's NATO membership will be held in Brussels, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told a joint press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Ankara, APA’s Istanbul correspondent reports.
Turkish Minister noted that Ankara stands for the continuation of this process on the basis of principles.
Foreign Minister also stated that Türkiye strongly condemns the burning of the Koran in Sweden on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
“Swedish security forces' inability to prevent a provocation at a time when the country's membership in NATO is being discussed makes us think in terms of security. The question then becomes whether Sweden will strengthen NATO or become a burden on the alliance. Sweden has made a number of decisions to combat terrorism, and we will be able to see how they are implemented,” the minister stressed.
