Limasol—APA. A British military aircraft crashed Monday at one of its two "sovereign bases" in southern Cyprus, but two pilots survived the accident.
The pilot and co-pilot managed to eject from the jet and are currently being treated for "non life-threatening injuries.
The aircraft was on a training exercise when it crashed on the runway of the British Base of Akrotiri on the south coast of Cyprus.
Local television footage showed a number of fire engines and ambulances were call in.
There were no civilian casualties. The actual details of the accident are still being investigated.
Britain has retained two military bases in Cyprus, after the eastern Mediterranean island gained its independence from British colonial rule in 1960. Akrotiri is said to be the largest overseas air base of Britain.
