2 killed in fire in Syrian refugee camp in Turkey

Baku-APA. Two people were killed in a fire on Friday that broke out in a refugee camp in Yayladagi, a town in Hatay province near the Turkish-Syrian border, where hundreds of Syrian refugees are being housed after fleeing their country, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Fire trucks arrived at the scene immediately and brought the fire under control, the report said, adding that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

According to initial reports, two people were killed and eight others wounded in the fire, and two of the wounded were taken to a hospital for treatment, while the other six were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Yayladagi Mayor Mustafa Kemal Dagistanli told reporters that the fire started very suddenly and spread over an area of 1,500 square meters, saying that the fire broke out in one part of the camp, which was used as a storage room, and that there was containerized housing units in which Syrian families were living next to the storage room.
