European Union names some sanctioned Iranian officials

Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. New sanctions were imposed on 18 Iranian individuals and entities at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium on March 23. APA reports that minister of information and communication of Iran Reza Taqipour, head of Iran’s state broadcasting network (IRIB) Ezzatollah Zarghami and chairman of the Supreme Court ayatollah Sadeq Larijani are also among them.

With the recent decision of the European Union the number of the sanctioned Iranian individuals and entities reached 79. According to the sanction, the persons, who are accused of violating human rights, are banned from traveling to the EU countries, their bank accounts in Europe have been frozen.

Moreover, eavesdropping, sale of devices and programs enabling control over internet traffic is banned in Iran. According to the agreement reached on January 23, 2012, the package of measures includes restriction of purchase of oil and oil products from Iran, freezing of assets of the Central Bank of Iran.

European Union embargo on Iranian oil imports comes into force on July 1.
