APA reports that the new sanctions were imposed against Iran, Syria and Belarus.

The EU add 18 Iranians "responsible for serious human rights violations" to a blacklist of 61 people already under an EU travel ban and asset freeze.

A ban is also likely against exporting equipment that could be used to monitor or intercept Internet and phone communications in Iran, said officials working on the measures who asked not to be identified. The EU ministers also approved regulations on implementing a ban on oil imports from Iran starting July 1.

The EU ministers added 29 firms and 12 individuals to some 230 Belarusians already blacklisted in a bid to put more pressure on President Alexander Lukashenko. The list includes those "benefiting from and supporting the regime" as well as people responsible for "repression" of the opposition, the foreign ministers said in a statement.

The ministers expanded existing travel bans and asset freezes against members of Syria’s ruling elite, including family members of President Bashar Assad, a diplomat said.

the list also included Asma Assad, the president’s wife, who also holds British citizenship.
