Baku-APA. Slovenian parliament unanimously passed on Friday amendments to the Greece bailout act, hoping this will help the heavily indebted country avoid a potentially disastrous default and secure the euro currency, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Slovenian Finance Minister Janez Sustersic said that helping Greece is important for Slovenia, and that the amendments will reduce the danger of chain reactions and instabilities in the eurozone.

After EU finance ministers reached an agreement over the 130 billion euro (170 billion U.S. dollars) bailout package for Greece in mid-February, the Slovenian government announced that Slovenia would contribute about 600 million euros (780 million dollars) in guarantees.

Slovenian government officials said that the goal of the changes to the Greek loan act, is to help Greece return to the financial markets by adjusting loan conditions.

Greece, which has been in financial crisis for years, needs to make a 14 billion euro (19 billion dollars) payment on its huge outstanding debt on March 20.
