Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. “Nowadays energy problems become the most important economic and legal issue. The world’s concern about the nuclear energy and security increases year by year. The main problem is related to the nuclear power plants, which resources exhausted and exploitation of these plants create tensions. Particularly Armenia’s Metsamor nuclear power plant alarm us”, professor of Sukhumi State University, doctor of history Omar Ardashelia told APA’s correspondent in Georgia. He said accident threat in the plant could lead to unexpected consequences. “The nuclear plant accident can cause human losses heavier than explosion of nuclear bomb. It can lead to catastrophe dreadful than atomic bomb thrown to Japan. It proves once again that exploitation of Metsamor nuclear plant can cause not only accident, but also natural cataclysm”.

The Georgian scientist said Metsamor plant expired on all parameters. “Any accident in this nuclear plant can lead to unexpected consequences not only in the South Caucasus, but whole Eurasia. Armenia can also face earthquake like neighboring Turkey. If the nuclear plant faces such threat, radioactive waste will be thrown around and it can result in consequences horrible than explosion of several atomic bombs”.

Ardashelia said unfortunately Armenia didn’t want to search alternative energy sources. “We understand it well that Armenia has no enough energy resources, but despite that shutdown of this nuclear plant is inevitable. International Atomic Energy Agency must take necessary measures for that. Experts working in the nuclear plant leave their offices because of economic problems in Armenia. It also creates dangerous situation”.
