Baku – APA. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday that the resumption of talks between the P5+1 and Iran were crucial, APA reports quoting turkishny.com web-page.
Speaking at a joint news conference with his Iranian counterpart Manuchehr Motaki in Istanbul, Davutoglu said that diplomatic efforts should be supported regarding Iran.
We have always had friendly and brotherly relations with Iran. We believed at all times that the Iranian issue should be resolved by diplomatic means. Every effort should be made to utilize diplomacy. I had a chance to inform Motaki about Turkey’s diplomatic efforts following a recent meeting in Tehran. I had a chance to convey to Motaki that talks between the P5 and Iran should resume immediately, Davutoglu said.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will visit Tehran in about a few days and we discussed this visit with Motaki, Davutoglu said.
Turkey’s stance on the Iranian issue is clear. We are against nuclear weapons in our region. We believe that problems should be resolved by diplomacy. We think that efforts for negotiations on the issue should be given a chance. Our region and the world should be kept away from tension. As Turkey, we are determined to make efforts for diplomacy. I have received positive messages from Motaki on the issue, Davutoglu said.
We have made a proposal to P5+1 to meet with Iran in Turkey. The Iranians look at this idea positively. We are waiting for a response from the P5+1 on this proposal, Davutoglu said.
A possible meeting in Turkey would be a crucial step for peace. We think it would be a serious step towards peace when the P5+1 and Iran meet in Turkey and they discuss the issue. The sides will have an opportunity to discuss all problems face to face, Davutoglu also said.
