Engineering work for the second phase of the Absheron gas-condensate field has been completed, and the project’s execution phase is planned to begin this year, said Emmanuel de Guillebon, Country Chair of TotalEnergies in Azerbaijan, during the “Upstream Sector – New Horizons” session at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, the initial production phase of the Absheron field, which was commissioned two years ago, has delivered the expected results.
“The field has behaved as expected, and the results have been very positive. We have achieved stable production, and this has provided us with all the data and confidence needed to move forward with the second phase,” he said.
Emmanuel de Guillebon noted that TotalEnergies has been working with its partners SOCAR and XRG over the past three years on the feasibility study for the second phase.
“We are currently in the tender stage for all major contracts and plan to begin the execution phase of the project by the end of this year,” he stressed.
According to him, three new wells will be drilled as part of the second phase, each with a production capacity of 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Approximately 70% of production will consist of gas and 30% of condensate.
The TotalEnergies official stated that under the project, the wells will be connected to the shore via a 140-kilometer subsea pipeline, allowing production to be transported directly to shore without the construction of a production platform.
Emmanuel de Guillebon added that facilities for gas processing and compression will be built onshore. Part of the gas will be exported to Türkiye, while the condensate, after stabilization, will be transported to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export oil pipeline.
