A unified certification system is needed for green energy exports from Azerbaijan to Europe, said Rana Humbatova, Deputy Director of the State Agency on Renewable Energy Sources (AREA), during the session titled “From Green Energy to Regional Integration: Energy Bridges” at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, harmonization of electricity market rules is essential for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Central Asian countries to create an integrated renewable energy market with Europe.
Rana Humbatova stated that mutually recognized certification systems are among the key prerequisites for international trade in green energy.
“Without reliable and internationally recognized certification mechanisms, green electricity exported from Central Asia and Azerbaijan cannot be recognized in the European market,” she noted.
According to her, in 2023, the countries of the region began cooperation on establishing a system of certificates of origin for electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
The AREA official added that the integration of power grids, unified planning, data exchange, and the creation of digital platforms are also important for the formation of a regional green energy market.
