Both in the oil and gas sector and in the field of renewable energy, most of the easily accessible opportunities have already been utilized. Processes in these areas have become more detailed and complex," said Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov while speaking at the event titled “Energy Efficiency and the ESCO Investment Platform: Connecting Global ESCO Experience with Azerbaijan’s Major Energy Consumers,” organized within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Week, APA-Economics reports.
“However, there is still significant potential in the field of energy efficiency, and this area is of particular importance to us. We are working on establishing the legal framework for the development of energy efficiency, and we have almost completed this process,” Elnur Soltanov added.
According to him, intensive work is currently underway on the building energy certification system.
“We believe it will be possible to launch this process and make it fully operational by the end of the year.”
The deputy minister noted that around 500 companies, institutions and buildings in Azerbaijan with energy consumption ranging from 250 kilowatts to 1,000 kilowatts have been identified. These entities and buildings are required to appoint energy managers. Together with the Ministry of Energy, this process has already been implemented in nearly 100 entities, and energy managers have been designated.
“This is a rather complex and detailed process. Energy managers must pass relevant examinations and obtain professional certification. At the same time, it is mandatory for these 500 entities to undergo an energy audit every three years. In other words, conducting an energy audit is a legal requirement for them.
I am not mentioning these points by chance. In addition, the Energy Efficiency Fund has also been established. Funding for the Fund has already been secured, and we are seeking to direct these financial resources toward energy efficiency projects,” Elnur Soltanov stressed.
