Azerbaijan to triple gas storage capacity

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan plans to increase its gas storage capacity to 5 billion cubic meters in the future, said Rovnag Abdullayev, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

According to him, gas storage capacity expansion programme is under way to increase the capacity of Kalmaz and Garadagh underground gas storage facilities.

“We are now laying 1 200” pipe in 47 km at these facilities. We will have 1.8 billion to 1.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas at these facilities for winter. The future of gas storage capacity will be increased to 3 billion cubic meters in the short run, and to 5 billion cubic meters in the future. These activities will improve Azerbaijan’s gas security and allow increasing exports,” he added
