Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan has given up the idea of constructing underground gas storage facilities in the Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic, said Rovnag Abdullayev, President of SOCAR.
According to him, an exploratory well has already been drilled for the construction of underground gas storage facilities, but the decision was changed later.
“According to specialists, constructing compressed gas storage facilities are more feasible than underground ones. The geological structure in Nakhchivan doesn’t allow constructing underground gas storage facilities. There are such facilities in Qatar and the United States. Initial storage capacity will be increased 90 million cubic meters, and then will be increased to 150 million cubic meters,†he added.
