Baku. Nicat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Russian oil firm TNK-BP, half owned by oil major BP, appoints the head of BP Azerbaijan, Bill Schrader, as its chief operating officer (COO).

The company declined to comment on whether the current COO, Tim Summers, will be leaving the company or moving to another post. Summers has been a key figure for BP in the protracted shareholder dispute that raged at the company until last year.

On Thursday, BP announced it appointed Rashid Javanshir as the president of BP-Azerbaijan, the first Azeri national to lead the company to replace Bill Schrader, who takes over as chief operating officer at Anglo-Russian venture TNK-BP.

Javanshir becomes the first Azeri national to lead BP-Azerbaijan, which operates the massive offshore Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil and Shah Deniz gas fields.

It also operates the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the second longest in the world.

The appointment is part of an effort by BP-Azerbaijan to appoint Azeri citizens to top positions in all parts of its business, the company said.
