Azerbaijan becomes major player in world chemical market

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. After a new petrochemical complex comes on stream in Azerbaijan, it will produce 400 000 tons of low-pressure polyethylene and 130 000 tons of propylene a year, said Azerkimya state-owned chemicals maker.

Besides, polyethylene production will more than double to 300 000 tons and nitrogen fertilizer to 1 million ton at 19 manufacturing facilities.

Modern technologies from Exxon Mobile (USA), Ineos (UK), Basell (Netherlands), Uhde (Thysenn Krupp - Germany), Technip (France), KBR (UK) will be deployed for production of petrochemicals and fertilizers.

Mejid Kerimov, President of Azerikimiya, says the construction of petrochemical complex will be implemented in 3 phases.

Ethylene, propylene, high pressure polyethylene, low pressure propylene, benzene, mineral fertilizers facilities will be set up.

Upon completion of the initial phase, propylene, polypropylene and low pressure polyethylene will be supplied to the world market.

In the second phase the production of ethylene glycol, butadiene, ethylbenzene and styrene, the third - the production of polyols, butadiene-styrene, rubber, polystyrene, etc.
will be launched.
All of the petrochemical products are in great demand in the global market.
