Taliban fighters have carried out a raid on the city of Kunduz in Afghanistan, entering the northern city from three different directions, while police and security forces were outside the city, provincial governor Mohammad Omar Safi was on a visit to Tajikistan, and law enforcement chiefs were in Kabul, APA reported citing lent.ru.
Militants have taken control of the main entrances to the city and then seized the provincial council building, the High Peace Council building, and a 200-bed hospital.
The assault left dead 14 Afghan police officers and 7 residents. Security forces said they have killed 13 militants and wounded 21 others. Troops sent to Kunduz failed to enter the city. Government forces have not yet made a decision on using aircraft in the counter offensive.
