An amendment to Article 11.2 of the law on diplomatic service was proposed by the Azerbaijani president, the parliament told APA on Sept.22.
According to the proposal, diplomats may be reduced in rank or striped of their ranks for a serious flaw in service duties or any action incompatible with diplomatic service.
The current version of the article is as follows: “They may be reduced in rank or stripped of their ranks when charged with having committed an action illegal according to the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan or the country they are in”.
The part “for a serious flaw in service duties or any action incompatible with diplomatic service” comes ahead of Article 11.2.
With the amendment, Article 11.2 reads as follows: “They may be reduced in rank or stripped of their ranks for a serious flaw in service duties or any action incompatible with diplomatic service or when charged with having committed an action illegal according to the law of Azerbaijan or the country they are in”.
The draft law will be put up for discussion at the parliament’s plenary session on September 30.
