Azerbaijani parliamentary elections start

The voting started after the national anthem was performed.

 

Polling stations opened at 08:00am and will be closed at 07:00pm.

 

Some 767 candidates are in run for 125 seats in the parliament.

 

CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov held a press conference before the voting.

 

Giving information about the preparations for the elections and works done by the CEC, he said all necessary conditions were created to hold transparent, democratic and fair elections in the country.

 

Panahov noted that web cameras were installed in up to 1,000 polling stations and a number of people were registered for observing the elections. The CEC chairman called the voters to go to the polling stations and be active in the voting process.

 

In total, 66,000 observers have been registered to monitor the elections. They include 501 international observers representing 40 institutions from 27 countries.

 

Preliminary data about the voting process and participation of voters in the election during the day will be given five times at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 03:00pm, 05:00pm and 07:00pm.

 

The exit poll is being conducted by the ELS independent research center, the REY Monitoring Center, as well as the Azerbaijani Youth's Rights Protection Center together with the French "Opinion Way" Social Research Institute, the Citizens' Labor Rights Protection League together with the US AJF & Associates Inc during the election.
