Ali Hasanov: Even creators of social networks failed to manage them

He pointed out that nowhere in the world perfect elections have been held thus far. “Negative cases are inevitable in the process involved by numerous actors. What’s important is that relevant bodies need to react to this immediately. Do not be afraid of the disadvantages,” he added.

Touching upon the fact that social networks illegally promote candidates, Panahov called on heads of media outlets to express their opinions in this regard.

President of APA Holding Vusala Mahirgizi said that for the first time in Azerbaijan social networks are used widely for campaigning candidates.

Noting that the monitoring of social networks is very difficult, Mahirgizi said fake pages are created on social networks and it is possible to create them both within the country and outside the country. “It is impossible to intervene in social networks and managing them,” she added.

Panahov said that he touched on the issue of social networks in order to attract the public attention to this issue. “The main point is the Azerbaijani community’s supporting our opinion,” he noted.

Ali Hasanov, the Azerbaijani president's aide on public and political issues, said that blogs created on social networks in Azerbaijan have not received the status of media outlets.

“Sometimes it is written that a journalist working as a blogger was arrested. Then, all bloggers will claim that they are journalists. Why did we create the Press Council? Journalists are recognized by the Press Council. Press cards of local journalists are recognized by the Press Council and of foreign journalists by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Fake pages of influential persons and ministers are being created in Azerbaijan. Even creators of social networks failed to manage them. No one could intervene in the internet and we have not such an opinion. The main issue for us is the estimation of the Azerbaijani people. Social networking and online media should be distinguished. Those wanting to create e-media, must be registered in the Justice Ministry and be recognized by the Press Council,” he underlined.
