Academician Jalal Aliyev dies

Jalal Aliyev was President Ilham Aliyev’s uncle.

Jalal Aliyev was born on June 30, 1928 in Nakhchivan city. He graduated in 1944 from the faculty of Natural Science of the Nakhchivan Teachers' Institute and in 1951 from the Biological Faculty of Azerbaijan State University. He was Doctor of biological sciences, professor, honored scientist, effective member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and actual member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, external member of Ukrainian and Belarusian Academies of Agricultural Sciences. He was the author of tens of monographs, books and scientific works.

Since 1948 he worked as laboratory assistant at the Plant Physiology chair of the Azerbaijan State University. Since 1954, Aliyev worked as junior researcher, Head researcher, and Head of laboratory at the Plant Growing Scientific-Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. Between the years of 1971 – 1990, he was Head of the creative group on photosynthesis physiology, Head of laboratory, and Head of section at the Institute of Botanic and academician-secretary of the Biological Sciences Section of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.

He was a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, member of the Political Council of the New Azerbaijan Party. He was a member of the Azerbaijani parliament.
