"The protection of the Azerbaijani language is on the list of priorities of state policy," said Professor Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during her speech at the conference titled "Development Strategy of the Azerbaijani Language as a State Language: Current Status and Prospects," APA reports.
"The purpose of this conference is to discuss strategies for the protection and development of the Azerbaijani language. The Milli Majlis is the body that strengthens the legal and intuitive basis of language policy. The development of the Azerbaijani language is always at the center of our attention. The steps taken by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in this direction are undeniable. It was thanks to the determination of our national leader that the Azerbaijani language was given the status of a State language in 1978," the Speaker noted.
She stated that the Azerbaijani language is developing, but global processes are creating new demands: “There is a need for a systematic approach, and new tasks lie ahead for the Azerbaijani language. Protecting the purity of the language, updating terminology on a scientific basis, improving language teaching in education with modern methods and technologies at this new stage of linguistic development, refining the norms of the literary language, enhancing the Azerbaijani language’s standing in the cultural space, and similar goals are of strategic importance for our state.”
