The Social Research Center of Azerbaijan (SRC) conducted a survey to find out the opinions of the country's public on the meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia, mediated by US President Donald Trump, and the declarations signed, as well as on the issues of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States, APA reports.

According to the SRC, the results of the survey determined that the aforementioned events were assessed as a positive and strategically important step in public opinion.

The survey results showed that the majority of the country's public was aware of the meeting. Thus, according to the results, 87.3% of the respondents said that they were aware of the meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia, mediated by US President Donald Trump. While 65.2% of them said that they had detailed information about it, 22.1% said that they were partially informed. The number of respondents who were unaware amounted to only 12.7%.

According to the results, the vast majority of respondents, namely 77.2%, assessed the meeting mediated by US President Donald Trump and the joint declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a very successful diplomatic step. In other words, the majority perceived this event as a significant diplomatic achievement for the measure. 18.5% of respondents assessed this event as an average achievement. Only 3.5% of the survey participants noted that the meeting did not meet expectations. 0.8% had difficulty answering this question. Overall, the survey results indicate that the meeting and the signed document received high support in the field of public opinion.

The results show that the meeting in question was perceived by the public as a positive diplomatic step and increased optimism in society regarding the future of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations. Thus, the vast majority of respondents, a total of 89.3%, took the position that US mediation would pave the way for progress in relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. 61.1% of them shared their expectations that there will be a big progress, 28.2% shared their expectations that there will be a partial progress. On the other hand, 4.6% of respondents did not expect any changes, and 3.8% said that this mediation would have a negative impact. 2.4% of the survey participants did not express an opinion on this. Thus, the vast majority, trusting in the US mediation, shared the expectation that this mediation will pave the way for progress in relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The survey results allowed us to determine public opinion on the main successful areas of the meeting, its priorities in both political and economic directions. Among the significant successes of the meeting and the signed memorandums, respondents most often highlighted the creation of new economic and transport opportunities (90.4%), the strengthening of personal relations between President Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump (90.1%), the achievement of sustainable peace in the region (89.3%), and the provision of unhindered communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan (89.3%). At the same time, the development of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States (83.9%), the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia (82.0%), and the beginning of a new political era in the South Caucasus (78.0%) were among the expectations.

96.3% of respondents agreed with the statement "President Ilham Aliyev won the war, and now he has won the peace," while 3.2% disagreed. 0.5% did not express an opinion on this issue.

85.0% of respondents assessed the Washington summit as the result of the victory in the Patriotic War.

According to the survey results, 95.2% of the country's public interpreted the results of this meeting as an integral event that united Nakhchivan with the main part of Azerbaijan.

80.7% of respondents shared the position that the US's influence in the South Caucasus has increased.

The public assessed the Washington Summit as a success of President Ilham Aliyev. This position was expressed by 76.4% of the survey participants. 41.2% of the respondents also assessed this summit as a success of President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was noted by only 5.1%. At the same time, 18.0% of the survey participants assessed the meeting as a general logical outcome of the processes taking place in the region. 1.3% noted other answers, and 3.2% had difficulty answering.

The survey results showed that public support for President Ilham Aliyev's peace diplomacy is high and this policy is perceived as successful and purposeful in terms of national interests. Thus, the vast majority of respondents assessed President Ilham Aliyev's peace diplomacy as generally high (92.8%). 66.8% of the respondents assessed this policy as very high, and 26.0% as high. Those who rated it average were 5.4%, and those who rated it low were 1.6% in total.

The majority of respondents (57.1%) considered the strategic partnership with the United States to be important in any case for Azerbaijan's national interests. 32.2% of respondents emphasized the importance of the partnership with the United States, but at the same time the need to maintain relations with the countries of the region. Only 6.2% of them said that they did not consider the strategic partnership with the United States to be important at all. 4.6% did not express an opinion on this issue.

The Azerbaijani public sees Azerbaijan (74.8%) and Türkiye (64.6%) in the first place as countries with a decisive position in the South Caucasus. The names of the United States (44.0%), Russia (19.6%), China (13.4%), Iran (5.1%) and Armenia (1.1%) were mentioned next. 1.9% of respondents named other countries. 2.4% of respondents shared the position that none of these countries are decisive, and 2.7% did not express an opinion on this.

Methodology The study was conducted based on quantitative methodology. The surveys were conducted between August 9 and August 14, 2025, among 1,100 respondents aged 18 and over. The surveys were conducted using the computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) method. The sampling frame was determined by a probabilistic method and proportional to the population distribution across the country, and gender balance was maintained. 12 economic regions were covered by the sampling frame. The surveys were conducted on a completely anonymous and voluntary basis. The respondents were informed that the results would be used for research purposes. Based on the number of respondents covered in the survey, the error coefficient of the results is 3% at a 95% confidence interval.
