Milli Majlis calls on French Senate to refrain from acts against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity-STATEMENT

Today, Milli Majlis discussed the protest statement at the conference in the French Senate on March 16, directed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and expressing clear disrespect to international law, APA reports.

The statement says: “It is regrettable that the French Parliament has become a tool in the hands of the forces that carried out a smear campaign against Azerbaijan after the Second Karabakh War. At a time when the international efforts in the field of signing a peace treaty with Armenia are strengthening, the step of the French Senate is a step serving revanchism. It is unacceptable that France, which avoids protecting the rights of national minorities, shows zeal for the Armenian minority in Azerbaijan. The phrase "Corsican people" was banned as a step against the French

Constitution. However, France is trying to present an ethnic minority living in Azerbaijan as the "People of Artsakh". The laws adopted by the French Senate and the National Assembly against Islamic separatism, which continuously interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, are used massively to restrict freedoms in this country. Therefore, the conference in the French Senate is a clear example of political hypocrisy.

Attempts by France to restore lost positions in the region by rudeness are doomed to failure. The Milli Majlis appealed to the government for not involving France which has demonstrated its unfair attitude towards Azerbaijan in the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia unless it changes its position.

In the context of the recent provocative actions of the French side, the Azerbaijani parliament once again reflected its principled position and calls on the French Senate to stop the practice of distorting the events in the South Caucasus, actions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, and to take steps that serve to create long-term peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan".
