"According to statistics, 43 percent of parents are unable to fully control their children's use of social networks," Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Hasanov said during a public discussion on the draft law proposing amendments to the laws "On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information" and "On Protection of Children from Harmful Information" in the Code of Administrative Offenses, organized by the Media Development Agency, APA reports.

He stated that the proposed law does not envisage blocking social networks, but rather strengthening oversight of their use: "Within the framework of the project, it is planned to introduce supervised usage mechanisms for users aged 16–18. In addition to age restrictions, it is also envisaged to prevent the display of targeted advertisements and harmful content. The use of age data for commercial purposes will also be prohibited."

Rashad Hasanov noted that social media platforms are reportedly not fully prepared for this process, and sanctions are expected to be imposed if the requirements are not met.

He emphasized that 93 percent of parents with school-age children in Azerbaijan support these changes:

"At the same time, it is also noted that the amendments to the legislation will not completely solve the problem. Important responsibilities fall on both state institutions and parents in this regard."
