Briefing for diplomatic corps held at Zangilan Congress Center

A briefing for the diplomatic corps was held at the Zangilan Congress Center, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Zangilan reports.

Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the political support of the Washington summit for the peace process during the briefing.

He stated that the main goal of the summit was to ensure peace. Assistant to the President noted that Azerbaijan and Armenia are in the process of defining peace and after peace, the main issue is establishing real cooperation and interaction between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Hikmet Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan's intention is to bring the economic benefits of peace to the wider region.

During his speech, Hikmat Hajiyev said that Zangazur corridor has the potential to change the transportation map of Eurasia: "We believe that the Zangazur corridor can create significant advantages not only for our region but also for the broader Eurasian space. This corridor has the potential to change the transportation map of Eurasia, strengthen prosperity, cooperation, and interaction. In this process, the South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan, will gain special attention and importance. As discussed, Zangilan was previously considered one of Azerbaijan’s remote regions, but now it is turning into one of the strategic and central areas where the East-West and North-South corridors intersect. Azerbaijan plays a key role in the construction and development of these routes, completing its part as quickly as possible. "

Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov also delivered a speech at a briefing. In his speech he said that construction of a new border crossing point is ongoing in Aghband village, located on Azerbaijan’s border with Iran, and it is planned to be completed next year. Deputy Minister noted that opening of the Zangazur Corridor will create entirely new geoeconomic realities for the region's transport network.

According to him, in the long term, this project has the potential to become a driving force for economic and social integration: “The corridor will also serve as a platform for energy and communication infrastructure. As you can see today, Azerbaijan has already taken significant steps toward the implementation of this corridor. The large-scale restoration program carried out in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions aims to transform these areas into new centers of development in the country.”
