The Milli Majlis (Parliament) has adopted a statement on the fifth anniversary of Victory Day, APA reports.
The Statement of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan dedicated to the fifth anniversary of November 8 – Victory Day was read by MP Vugar Rahimzade.
The statement reads:
“President Ilham Aliyev’s farsighted domestic and foreign policy played a decisive role in the 44-day Patriotic War. Azerbaijan gained the ability to conduct the war without foreign assistance. A modern professional army was created, and the military industry was strengthened. The implementation of an independent foreign policy has increased Azerbaijan’s international prestige. A strong unity was established between the people, the government, and the army. All political forces united around the restoration of territorial integrity. Our people’s national unity, strengthened by the ideas of Azerbaijani identity, was one of the key factors of victory. Unfortunately, during the war, Armenia, violating international law and principles, committed terrible crimes against civilians. Despite the bloody attacks and atrocities of the opposing side, the Azerbaijani Army did not allow harm to be inflicted on civilians.
In nearly the last 200 years, the expansionist policy carried out by the militant Armenian nation has been brought to an end.
Today, the cities and villages destroyed by the occupiers are being restored. One of new models of Azerbaijan’s future development is taking shape in the region.
Regrettably, the landmines planted by Armenia hinder the rapid implementation of restoration and construction works. Despite all this, Azerbaijan has demonstrated political will to advance a peace agenda.
The Milli Majlis has expressed its support for the efforts of the President of Azerbaijan and calls on our people to unite even more closely around their leader.”
