“We can sign a peace agreement by June this year, that is, before the next elections in Armenia,” MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said at today’s session of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), APA reports.

The MP noted that this could be possible if Armenia undertakes an obligation in its new Constitution not to have territorial claims against Azerbaijan: “Under our legislation, the war between Armenia and us is recognized as the Patriotic War. Therefore, under the Constitution, the signing of a peace agreement requires the consent of the Milli Majlis. In August last year, the peace agreement was initialed. The peace agreement needs to be discussed in parliament. I propose that it be included in the work plan of this spring session.”

He also said that cargo is currently being transported to Armenia via Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan sells fuel to Armenia. If cargo is transported to Armenia through Azerbaijan, I believe cargo can also be transported to Azerbaijan through Armenia. We can restore the railway line with Armenia, including the railway line from Sadarak to Yerevan. At present, the issue of opening roads between Türkiye and Armenia by March is also being discussed. For Nakhchivan’s rapid development, cargo must be transported to Nakhchivan by rail, and we must transport cargo to Nakhchivan through Armenia as well. I think the government should take certain steps in this direction,” Gudrat Hasanguliyev emphasized.
