Rules for verifying age restrictions on social media under the new draft law have been announced, Havva Huseynli, Head of the Cooperation and Communication Sector of the Electronic Security Service, said during a public discussion of a draft law proposing amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, the Law "On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information," and the Law "On Protection of Children from Harmful Information," organized by the Media Development Agency, APA reports.
She noted that age verification will be carried out through bank cards (using a temporary fund-blocking mechanism), as well as through cross-checking email and mobile phone number information.
It was stated that certain obligations will also be imposed on platform providers in this process. The use of manipulative design elements, such as the "infinite scroll" function and the automatic playback of videos, which can create addiction among teenagers, will be prohibited.
At the same time, parents will be provided with a special control panel to monitor the amount of time their children spend on platforms and the content they view.
It was noted that personal data will be used solely for the purpose of age verification, and if compliance is not confirmed, such data will be deleted immediately.
The use of this information for advertising and commercial purposes or its transfer to third parties will also be prohibited.
Platforms will be required to remove harmful content within a maximum of 24 hours after detecting it and establish technical systems operating 24/7 for this purpose.
