“An atlas of maps obtained from world archives is being prepared at the Institute of History,” the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), academician, Chairman of the Toponymy Commission, Isa Habibbeyli, said during his speech at the conference "Development Strategy of the Azerbaijani Language as the State Language: Current Status and Prospects," APA reports.
“Our maps covering the period before the Soviet era will once again demonstrate how wide the geographical spread of Azerbaijani toponyms—related to linguistics, geography, and our national identity—is. Of course, among the provisions of the historical speech delivered at ANAS, the ideas and calls related to the Azerbaijani language hold a special place. The mother-tongue policy pursued by national leader Heydar Aliyev is today being continued by the President, both at the level of the native language and the state language,” he said.
