Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. “Practice says that foreign interference has neither helped improve democracy, nor solve the problems of the country. Azerbaijan’s development is based on Heydar Aliyev’s strategy, and foreign influence or support does not play any role in the development of Azerbaijan. The development of democracy is sourced from the internal needs of the people. Foreign support arises many questions,” executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ali Ahmadov told journalists, APA reports. He said the reports that the US government would allocate $3.2mln. to support democracy in Azerbaijan before the presidential elections had been investigated.
“We have talked to the representatives of the US embassy in Azerbaijan and asked them for what purpose the funds will be used. We also asked them which organizations will be able to use these funds. They said they intended to support the development of democracy in Azerbaijan by financing the projects of NGOs. I do not know how plausible and sincere these statements are,” he said.
Ali Ahmadov said that any foreign financial assistance to the political projects in Azerbaijan was undesirable.
“It would be better if every country uses its internal opportunities for the development of democracy and other spheres of life, because all the issues are connected with Azerbaijani citizens. Unfortunately, some NGOs are interested in involving foreign funds. This interest is sometimes understood doubtfully,” he said.
Ali Ahmadov said undesirable steps resulting from foreign influence would not be allowed.
