Musavat Party attempts to picket outside Baku Mayor’s Office  <font color=red>- UPDATED </font>

At the appointed time about 25 Musavat members attempted to move from Icherisheher metro station towards Baku Mayor’s Office. But the police did not allow them approaching the building. 13 picketers were detained and taken to the 9th police station. Cameraman of “Yeni Musavat” newspaper Afgan Mukhtarli and member of the party’s Assembly, chairman of Sabayel district organization Huseyn Malikov were also among the detainees. The picketers were not allowed to read the resolution. The resolution presented to the journalists demands to observe of Constitution and law on freedom of assembly and ensure Musavat party’s rallies. Officer for political and military issues of OSCE Office in Baku John McGregor observing the picket said that there should a legal ground to detain picketers.
“It is early to say whether there is a legal base for detention of people. Now we are only observing the process,” he said.
Deputy Chief of Sabayel District Police Office Kamal Valishov told journalists that the party members were dispersed as they attempted to hold unsanctioned picket.
Sabayel District 9th Police Station told APA that 10 picketers, who had been brought to the police office, were released after warning.
