Tehran Revolutionary Court issues verdict on Azerbaijani Human Rights activists

Journalist and Human Rights defender Said Matinpour was conditionally sentenced for 8 years and lawyer Saleh Kamrani for a year of prison. They both were accused in the espionage and anti-government activities. Other activists Jalil Ganilu, Alirza Matinpout, Yagub Salikinia, Mirgasim Seyyidinzadeh, Bahruz Safari and his wife Leila Heydari, as well as professors of Tehran University Abdullah Abbasi Javan and Mohammad Ali Heydari were conditionally sentenced for 5 years of prison for their political activities. The above-mentioned persons were arrested during the bloody May events and International Native Language Day in 2006 by the Iranian law-enforcement bodies and faced with tortures and pressures over the months and later were released charged upon the substantial sum of money.
