In addition to leaving the door open to the ’good guys’ there to invite him back, he secured a job at the (bitter) rival Montana State University’s Department of Political Science, where he taught a class this Spring. He confirmed that he left Missoula for Livingston over the past year.
What is the Azerbaijan connection in all this? He answered:
“Huge. I was brought to UM as an expert on Az (and the Caucasus). Extreme pressure was quickly put on me to find some Az-related funding to continue my activities, which I eventually found--and which was then almost immediately stolen. I could use the word ’mis-appropriated,’ but that is too mild. The amount is almost trivial: $30,000. But this is what UM (or the controllers of the fund) thought they could play with. And they did so, involving themselves in a web of lies and deceit that was breath-taking to behold for so paltry a sum. I will share those details when I get around to writing up the full report,” he said.
He stated that his friends supported him, irrespective of unjust activities of people against him. Professor Goltz noted that he would return to University after elimination of contradiction.
Professor Goltz qualified specialists on Azerbaijan at the University of Montana. The Heydar Aliyev Annual Prize for Montana students engaged in Azerbaijani studies was presented Clay Burnett, Andrew Miller and Ross Pedi for their outstanding research of Azerbaijan’s history and culture.
