PACE co-rapporteurs to arrive in Azerbaijan today

Andres Herkel told APA that the visit will last till May 21. They will meet with President Ilham Aliyev, speaker of parliament Ogtay Asadov, Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov, National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov, chairman of Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov within the framework of the three-day visit. PACE representatives are also planned to meet with the representatives of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), opposition, NGOs and media. The co-rapporteurs will assess pre-election situation in the country and gather latest facts to finalise their report on the functioning of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan.
APA reports that PACE representatives will also have meetings with editor-in-chief of Azadlig newspaper Ganimat Zahid in Bayil detention place #1, founder and editor-in-chief of Gundalik Azerbayjan and Realniy Azerbaydjan Eynulla Fatullayev in detention place #12 and correspondent of Azadlig newspaper Mirza Sakit in jail #14.
The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice told APA that the co-rapporteurs will visit the three journalists tomorrow.
