Azerbaijani opposition’s draft law on annexes and amendments to Electoral Code discussed in Parliament

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev-APA. The bill on annexes and amendments to the Electoral Code prepared by Azerbaijani opposition has been discussed in the Parliament’s Commission. APA reports that the document has been discussed in today’s meeting of the Parliament’s Standing Commission on Legal Policy and State Building. Chairman of the Commission Ali Huseynov said that the document presented by a group of opposition parliamentarians had been studied in the Parliament’s Office. MP Panah Huseyn spoke about the draft law on annexes and amendments to the Electoral Code. Panah Huseyn said that the proposed amendments were mainly connected with the formation of the election commission on parity basis. He said the draft law presented by the opposition also noted that Chairman of the Central Election Commission might be the representative of the Government.
Member of the Commission Fazail Agamali said formation of election commission on parity basis might paralyze the election process and that variant was unacceptable. He said that the present format of the election commission was more satisfactory.
Following the discussions, voting was held in connection with the document presented by the opposition, the commission members voted against it.
