UN Secretary General issues message on the International Day of Families

Baku. Mahbube Gasimbeyli â€“APA. UN Secretary General issued message on May 15, the International Day of Families. UN Office in Azerbaijan told APA, the message reads that the theme for this yearâ€™s International Day of Families, â€œFathers and Families: Responsibilities and Challengesâ€, focuses on the important role fathers play in the lives of families and children around the world. â€œYet challenges persist for fathers â€“ and for society and social policy. Too many men have difficulty assuming the responsibilities of fatherhood, often with damaging consequences to families and inevitably society at large. Some fathers inflict domestic violence or even sexual abuse, devastating families and creating profound physical and emotional scars in childrenâ€, said in the message. It was also emphasized that at the international level, migration forces many fathers to often face separation from their families. The Secretary General called on fathers to honor their families and called on families to honor fathers for their important contributions to family life.
