Ombudsman appeals to international organizations on Day of Azerbaijanisâ€™ Genocide

Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said that day was one of the saddest days in the history of Azerbaijan. Elmira Suleymanova said she had prepared a statement concerning the genocide and informed the world community of the document. The statement has been sent to UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, OSCE, Council of Europe, International and European Ombudsman Institutes, Asian Ombudsman Association, International Peace Bureau, Universal Peace Federation, Azerbaijanâ€™s embassies in foreign countries, foreign embassies in our country and Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations. The document says that the slaughter in March 1918 is one of the most terrible examples of the genocide policy pursued by Armenians against Azerbaijanis.
â€œArmenian dashnaks killed 12,000 Azerbaijanis within three days in Baku, They atrociously killed old people, women and children, and destroyed historical monuments. Such tragedies were also committed in Guba, Khachmaz, Shamakhy, Lankaran and other territories. Hundreds of Azerbaijani towns and villages, as well as about 150 villages in the mountainous area of Karabakh settled by Azerbaijanis were razed to the ground, over 50,000 people were killed in 1918-1920. 90 years have passed since the genocide committed in March 1918, but it is impossible to forget the terrible actions committed by Armenian nationalistsâ€, the statement says.
The statement notes that the world community, which focuses on combating international terrorism, should give unbiased legal assessment to these savageries against Azerbaijani people, culprits should be punished.
â€œI hope influential international organizations will support Azerbaijanâ€™s right position, authoritative international organizations will impose sanctions on Armenia, which has made genocide a part of the state policy,â€ the statement reads.
