Trafficking in Persons Training Event in Baku

Baku. Elnur Huseynguliyev â€“APA. The training on Trafficking in Persons sponsored by the US Embassy, the US Department of Justice and the OSCE has been organized in Baku. According to APA, representatives of the Azerbaijani law-enforcement bodies, non-governmental organizations, US Association of Lawyers and other organizations are attending the event. US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse said trafficking in persons is a form of modern-day slavery. â€œVictims are forced into labor or sexual exploitation. As many as 800 thousands people are trafficked each year across national borders and millions more are trafficked within their own countries. While most of the victims are women trafficked for sexual exploitation, there are also an estimated 12.3 million children and men who are trafficked for forced laborâ€. The ambassador welcomed Azerbaijani commitment to fight this problem and said the US would provide all assistances to Azerbaijan in its efforts to eliminate human trafficking. The event will be finalized on Friday.
