London Azerbaijan Society carries out campaign on 16th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy

The society told APA that they appealed to UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband, 646 members of the House of Commons, 78 British members of European Parliament, heads of national delegations to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, famous media outlets such as The Washington Post, The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Washington Times, The New York Times, The Age, The Newsweek, The Boston Globe, as well as UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), president of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, head of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Secretary General of Amnesty International, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, foreign embassies in Baku and the Society-published books “Khojaly tragedy – an International View” and International Visions: Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Karabakh” were also added to the appeal. In the appeal head of London Azerbaijan Society Tale Heydarov once more recalls the tragedies committed in Khojaly 16 years ago and says Khojaly tragedy is one of the gravest crimes of the present days. The appeal says that the bloody actions committed in Khojaly violate Geneva Convention. Khojaly massacre is not only a tragedy of Azerbaijanis, but whole world. Such cases will butt of criticism of international society and it will make conflict parties avoid cruelty, bear responsibility for actions, and obey international legal norms and principles in the world in future. Heydarov calls international society to condemn Khojaly genocide as a crime against humanity and to increase pressures against Armenia for liberation of Azerbaijani lands.
Articles on the tragedy which published in leading mass media of the world, impression of victims and foreign journalists who witnessed the tragedy, results of medial examination of injured people, as well as photos of foreign photographers taken at the site were collected in the book “Khojaly tragedy-an International View”. Scientific researches on Nagorno Karabakh conflict of well-known specialists of the world were reflected in the book “International Visions: Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Karabakh”. The books aim to give information about Khojaly genocide and Nagorno Karabakh conflict to international society basing on unbiased and independent sources and show the real sinner. Above-said books were sent to 60 libraries of the world in the framework of campaign.
London Azerbaijan Society is a founder of English language journal “Visions of Azerbaijan’ published for Azerbaijan’s recognition in the world and www.karabakh.co.uk website which deals with realities of Karabakh.
