New York hosts solemn event on 50th jubilee of Azerbaijan Society of America and Independence Day of Azerbaijan

Jubilee events started with the raising Azerbaijani and US flags in Broadway Street, Manhattan. President of Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) Tomris Azeri addressing the event declared that raising flags of the two countries have been arranged for humansâ€™ honor who considers these countries their motherland. Then solemn event with the participation of 150 guests was marked in former Mayorâ€™s building â€œBrooklyn Borough Hallâ€. The Presidents Ilham Aliyev and George Bushâ€™s congratulation letters were read in the event on the jubilee of Azerbaijan Society of America. Following this, written appeals of National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov and Culture Minister Abulfaz Garayev were presented to the guests.
President of Brooklyn Borough Hall Marty Markowitz addressing the ceremony noted the useful activities carried out in the city by ASA, achievements in Diasporaâ€™s activities in the event. Following this, Yashar Aliyev, Azerbaijani ambassador to the US, Agshin Mehdiyev, head of Azerbaijani permanent representation to UN, Elin Suleymanov, Azerbaijani consul general to Los-Angeles, Ganira Pashayeva Azerbaijani MP delivered speech. Ms. Pashayeva invited President of Brooklyn Borough Hall to Azerbaijan.
Javid Huseynov, head of Azerbaijan Council of America headquarters of which is located in California read congratulation letters of governors of US States- governor of State of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Washington Christine Gregoire, Montana Brain Schweitzer on October 18-Independence Day of Azerbaijan.
The representatives of Jewish community of New York, Irakli Alasania, head of Georgian permanent representation to UN, Moldovan representative Vsevolod Gregory participated in the event. Azerbaijani meals were presented to guests in the solemn event./APA/
