Azerbaijani young mugam singers gave concert at the Carnegie University of Washington yesterday, APA’s USA bureau told.
At the beginning of the concert composer Siyavush Kerimi gave brief information about the history of mugam and the activities carried out in the country for the development of mugam. Beyimkhanum Mirzeyeva and Teyyar Bayramov sang such songs as “Menim Azerbaijanim”, “Irevanda khal galmadi”, “Bana-bana gel”, “Sari gelin”, “Garabakh shikestesi” and others. The performances of tar player Elchin Hashimov and kaman player Elnur Ahmadov were applauded. After the concert musicians had to return on the stage twice to the applause of audience. “Mugam “magazines published by the Fund of Friends of Azerbaijani Culture were distributed among he spectators by the before the concert.
The members of Azerbaijani Diaspora in Washington, representatives of diplomatic corps and governmental and non-governmental organizations participated in the event.
The visit of art figures to the US is arranged in the framework of cultural exchange program designated by the Department of State.
The visit schedule of the delegation also includes different bilateral meetings and cultural events in the cities of Bluefield (West Virginia State), Seattle (Washington State), Santa Fe (New Mexico), New Orleans (Louisiana State), and New York (New York State). /APA/
