May 28 â€“ Republic Day marked in various countries of the world

Baku â€“ APA. May 28 â€“ Republic Day was marked by Azerbaijani embassies and Diaspora organizations abroad.

Moscow. APAâ€™s Moscow correspondent reports that solemn ceremony was held in Azerbaijani embassy in Russia on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic. Ambassador Polad Bulbuloglu said despite short period Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic formed the democratic bases of our present sovereign state. Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia Doku Zavgayev and Alexander Yakovenko also addressed the event. They congratulated Azerbaijani people on the occasion of May 28 â€“ Republic Day. Official representatives, public, political and cultural figures of Azerbaijan and Russia also attended the event.

New York. Azerbaijani permanent representation to the UN held an official reception in New York on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic. The representation told APA that representatives of UN, heads of permanent representations of foreign countries to the UN, heads and members of Azerbaijani Jewish communities in New York attended the event.

Tbilisi. An event on Azerbaijan Republic Day was also held in Marriott Tbilisi in the capital of Georgia yesterday, APAâ€™s Georgia bureau reports. Addressing the event Azerbaijani ambassador to Georgia Namig Aliyev said the projects implemented by Azerbaijan ensured security in the South Caucasus. Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze congratulated Azerbaijani people and government on the Republic Day. Vice-speaker of Georgian parliament Fridon Todua and ex-president Eduard Shevardnadze also attended the event. Ex-president of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze told APAâ€™s local bureau that it was also the holiday of Georgians.
â€œGeorgians also participate in this holiday, we are glad and celebrate this holiday together. We are brothers,â€ he said.
Commenting on the developments in Georgia ex-president said:
â€œEverything will be solved.â€
Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Georgia, military attaches, Azerbaijani and Georgian parliamentarians, officials of Georgian Ministry for Reintegration, officers of Azerbaijanâ€™s State Committee for Diaspora, leadership of SOCAR office in Georgia, representatives of Kvemo-Kartli province, Georgian and Azerbaijani media representatives also attended the event.

Ottawa. The embassy of Azerbaijan in Canada and Azerbaijani community of Ottawa organized a ceremony of raising three-color national flag of Azerbaijan outside of Ottawa Mayorâ€™s Office. Azerbaijani and Turkish ambassadors to Canada Farid Shafiyev and Rafet Akgunay also attended the ceremony. After the welcoming by the leader of Azerbaijani community Yashar Moghan, the ambassadors addressed the ceremony. Then the Azerbaijani flag was raised outside the Mayorâ€™s Office and national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. The Azerbaijani flag was also raised before the municipalities of Toronto and Edmonton cities of Canada on the occasion of 91st anniversary of Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic.

Amman. The national holiday of Azerbaijan, 28 May â€“ Republic Day was widely celebrated in Jordan. According to APA, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan sent a letter of congratulation to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the Republic Day. The government institutions, offices and organizations, individuals also sent congratulatory letters to the ambassador of Azerbaijan.

The embassy of Azerbaijan gave an official dinner-party in Marriott Hotel in Amman to the Jordanian officials, businessmen, foreign diplomats accredited in the country, representatives of Azerbaijani community in Jordan, local journalists, members of the Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, well-known intellectuals. High-ranking officials of the Royal Court (Divan) of Jordan, minister of education and scientific research, minister of public sector reforms, deputy minister of foreign affairs, members of the parliament, generals of the Jordanian armed forces, deputy chairman and secretary general of the Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and other officials attended the party.

The Jordanian newspapers published various articles and materials on the Republic Day of Azerbaijan, including an article by the Azerbaijani ambassador in â€œDusturâ€, one of the largest newspapers of the Arab world.

Astana. 91st anniversary of Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic was marked in Kazakhstan too. Participants of the event organized by Khazar Cultural Center and Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Cultural Union in Astana spoke about the history of the Peopleâ€™s Republic and its role in the history of independence of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani ambassador to Kazakhstan Latif Gandilov attended the ceremony.

Washington. Azerbaijani embassy in the United States organized a reception on 28 May â€“ Republic Day in Four Seasons Hotel in Washington. Ambassadors and other diplomats accredited in Washington, representatives of the leading analytical centers, members of Azerbaijani community in the United States attended the reception. Ambassador Yashar Aliyev welcomed the guests and spoke about the history of the first democratic republic of the East. Activists of the Azerbaijani community played the national anthem and pieces of folklore music of Azerbaijan. US former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Turkish ambassador Nebi Shensoy were also among the guests.
