Two million post-Soviet people receive Russian citizenship over the past six years

The term of easy Russian citizenship is ended on July 1, 2009, said chief of the citizenship department of the Russian Migration Service Mikhail Utyatsky, APA correspondent in Moscow reports. He said two million people have received Russian citizenship over the past six years since the amendments to the law on Russian citizenship, as well as to the international agreements between Russia and Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan were made.

362 thousand of people received the Russian citizenship in 2008 and 32.3% of them are working people. 50.8 % of the new citizens are the men and 49.2% - the women. 34.7% of the new “Russians” have secondary-level education, 25.8% - special-secondary, 15.8 % - higher education and 14.2 % - primary-school education. Utyatsky said 60% (1/2 million) of the persons receiving the Russian citizenship in 2003-2008 were those, who prolonged the term of residency for three times. 32.213 Belarus people, 545.357 Kazakhs and 207.173 Kyrgyz people became the Russian citizens in this period.
