APA reports quoting toplumsalhafiza.com that some members of the EBU held a meeting in Geneva at the end of last month. Preparations for Eurovision 2012 and media reports about the contest were discussed at the meeting. The participants underlined that there is no problem concerning the construction of the building, visa, security, coordination.
Some EBU members expressed their concern over the recent media reports about the politicization of the contest. Some members said the following with regard to the BBC:
“BBC is carrying out large campaign against the Azerbaijani government and Eurovision Song Contest that will be held in Baku. BBC’s action is damaging Eurovision.â€
The participants mentioned Damien McGuinness’ article, which was first published in the main news bulletin on December 17, then on December 22, similar articles published in The Times, The Telegraph, The Week.
The participants regarded as groundless the claims that the construction ongoing in Baku is attributed to Eurovision and the contest is used as a means of pressure. It was decided to send a warning to the BBC on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union.
