Baku-APA. “The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) continued its activity for the popularization of Azerbaijan. For this reason, representations were founded in Brussels and Paris and political, economic, cultural, media and charity projects and ceremonies were organized”, read the TEAS report for 2011, APA reports quoting the Society.

General information on functioning of London, Brussels, Berlin, London Paris and Baku offices for a year was given in the report.

According to information, at the moment TEAS is recognized as an independent organization with more than 30 international company members and having relations main European political, Economic, Academic and cultural circles: “Activity of TEAS is opposed by the Armenian diaspora and lobby worriedly and anti propaganda is organized against the organization. The activity of the embassies of Armenia to European countries, EuFo organization in Brussels, and US Columbia University professor George Burnitya’s activity can be noted.

According to TEAS, the organization re-arranged Azerbaijan All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) again at the Parliament of UK: “The organization achieved to reach number of group members to 69. For the number of its members, this is one of the largest groups in the British Parliament. TEAS also implements secretary works of this group.

At the level of parties, the friendship groups are started to create as a result of TEAS’ activity.

From the Conservatives Party, the group of Conservative Friends of Azerbaijan Group (CFAZ) was created in the parliament.

At the same time, wide information about Azerbaijan was submitted to the House of Commons Energy Select Committee.

TEAS also supported organizing “South Caucasus and Azerbaijan” 90-minut discussions at the House of Commons in the Westminster Hall.

The Society arranged a sitting with participation of the Labour Party. Mike Gapes MP (former Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee), Richard Howitt MEP (European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee attended the conference.
Last year, the reception has been organized with participation of Parliamentarian Liberal Democrat Party - Stephen Gilbert MP (NATO Parliamentary Assembly) and Lord German.

The conference were organized with participation of representatives of the Parliamentary Conservative Party, Europe Minister David Lidinqton MP, Geoffrey Van Orden, MEP (European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee), the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee and reception was held with participation of FCO Minister Alistair Burt, MP.

Conservative Party’s summer forum was organized with the participation of former Defense Secretary Liam Fox.
TEAS organized an event and photo exhibition for the remembrance of Khojaly genocide in London and Brussels. Lord Kilclooney and Christopher Pincher MP in London and Brussels had a speech at the event.

The organization regularly informs members of the British Parliament on the economic, political and cultural life of Azerbaijan.

Meetings were held with the newly appointed and leaving ambassadors of UK to Azerbaijan, the newly appointed ambassador to Armenia, as well as with UK Special Representative for South Caucasus Sir Brian Fall.

Meetings were held with Foreign Office Ministers David Lidington and Lord Howell and Energy Minister Charles Hendry.

The Society has organized the visit of Azerbaijan All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), headed by Mark Field. The delegation was received by President Ilham Aliyev.

On July 22-27, the visit of Conservative Friends of Azerbaijan Group (CFAZ) was organized to Azerbaijan. In 2011, Azerbaijan was one of the most frequently visited countries by British parliamentarians.

Members of the society in London, Berlin and Brussels offices of the organization organized regular meetings with diplomatic missions being neutral on Nagorno Karabakh issues in the UN General Assembly.

In Berlin, a briefing was held with the delegation headed by Head of South Caucasus Department of the Federal Chancellery Dr. Christoph Israng.

In European Parliament, Brussels, TEAS organized a round table on occasion of the 20th anniversary of restoration of independence of Azerbaijan with participation European parliamentarians Tunne Kelam MEP, Evgeni Kirilov MEP and Ivo Vajgl MEP.

On the eve of the football match between Belgium and Azerbaijan in Brussels "football diplomacy" event was held. The event was attended by senior officials, including members of European Parliament and Belgian Parliament, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders.

The report also reflects TEAS’s activities carried out on the economic sphere. An international business forum on the theme of "Lightening investment opportunities in Azerbaijan" was held in London, on May 12-13. The forum was attended by over 200 delegates from Europe, USA and Azerbaijan.

With the support of the Society, the investment forum "Azerbaijan’s financial sector - opportunities and challenges for middle period" was held with participation of over 150 professionals of the financial and banking sectors in Europe on November 7, 2011, in London.

TEAS organized the visits of European businessmen, headed by representatives of the British «Sturgeon Capital» and «FM Investment», as well as German businessmen headed by Otto Hauser to Baku.
