"Today, we produce crude oil with 9.6 kilograms of CO2 per barrel. To put it into perspective, the entire industry is at a level of 32 kilograms of CO2 per barrel," Samir Rzayev, President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), stated at the "International Aviation and Climate Change" event held within the framework of COP29 in Baku, APA reports.
"Aviation today consumes 6.3 million barrels of jet fuel daily, and this number is expected to increase to 8.3 million barrels. This means an additional 2 million barrels of daily fuel will be needed. The projections for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2035 are around 600,000 barrels. This shows the role of low-carbon aviation fuel (LCAF). It is an achievable goal and also encourages the oil and gas industry to reduce its carbon footprint," S. Rzayev added.
