Three people were killed, and three others were seriously injured in Bulgaria after a car collided with a public transport bus on Friday evening, the Ministry of Interior said on Saturday, Xinhua reports.
According to the ministry, the crash took place at around 7:37 p.m. local time (1737 GMT) on the outskirts of the country's capital, Sofia, involving two passenger cars and a bus. Initial data found that the two cars were traveling at a speed of "at least 140-150 km/h," suggesting an illegal street race as the possible cause of the crashes.
One of the cars crashed into a pole, then split in half and hit a public transport stop. The other collided with a public transport bus and caught fire, the ministry said.
Though the bus driver had tried to avoid the collision and the fire was promptly extinguished, two foreign citizens died on the spot. A few hours later, one of the injured also died. Currently, three passengers on the bus are in life-threatening condition, and 11 other people were slightly injured.
Local media said the drivers of the passenger cars and the bus are among the injured. The authority has launched an investigation into the deadly crash.
