Head of the Clean Economy Programme at Energy Policy Group, Romanian expert Luciana Miu's Interview with APA
- How do you assess Azerbaijan's role in COP29?
- COP29 is a unique chance for governments, civil society, and industry around the world to come together and work together to achieve the climate goals we set for ourselves in Paris in 2015. Every year, we gather to make progress on these complex issues. COP29, held in Azerbaijan, is a unique chance to understand how all actors in the energy sector can work together. We must emphasize our commitment to moving towards a clean energy future. Therefore, I appreciate Azerbaijan's role in achieving our climate goals, from our transition to clean energy, and I think Azerbaijan is at a really interesting intersection geographically and culturally to bring everyone together and think about this complex issue together.
- Do you believe a consensus will be reached on financing at COP29?
- I hope that a consensus will be reached, and I think this is encouraging. I must say, however, that this is indeed a difficult issue, and I know there are many small details that still need to be resolved. But I can say that I am hopeful, and I believe we have a good chance of reaching our collective goals.
- What do you think about the cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan?
- I believe that the cooperation between our countries holds great potential. In September, Romania, Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Georgia jointly advanced the Green Energy Corridor initiative to transport clean energy from the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea region and onwards to Europe. So, I believe there is significant potential for cooperation between countries, including between regions, the Caucasus, and the European Union. Romania is a "gateway country" at the border with the European Union. Therefore, I see this as highly promising, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
