"Globally, if we don't help countries tackle climate change, two-thirds of those living in extreme poverty will live in vulnerable and conflict-affected countries by the end of this decade," Anneliese Dodds, British Minister for Development said during the "High-level Panel on Climate and Peace: Enabling joint action to leave no one behind" held within the framework of COP29, APA reports.
The Minister said that therefore, changing this should be a common priority of all of us: "The call to Baku is exactly that. I am very proud that the UK is supporting this today. We look forward to the new Baku center and the network of states. We must strive to match climate finance with agencies and partners that can ensure it reaches those most in need, and ensure that the voices of those most affected are heard and listened to. In the last 10 years, only 2 out of 10 states affected by climate problems in the world received 1% of the total global climate finance. Today, I am also pleased to announce the Common Principles for Effective Climate Finance and Action for relief, recovery and peace. We need to make sure that all our efforts are mutually reinforcing. There must be a practical view of how we can maximize our impact. I am proud that the UK is involved in the development of these principles."
