A High-Level Dialogue on National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) was held during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.
The event kicked off with opening remarks by Simon Stiel, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, who emphasized that National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) are now more necessary than ever. He noted that every step taken toward a just and climate-resilient future would be supported by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Subsequently, Rwanda's Minister of Environment, Valentin Uvamariya, stated that all countries should have clear policies on NAPs: "Therefore, enhancing cooperation and resilience to climate change is a key thing we can do, and it is also crucial to consider existing global sustainability efforts."
Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu, the Minister of Health and Medical Services of Fiji, highlighted the importance of ecosystem support transformation and, alongside this, the crucial role of financing in the successful implementation of NAPs.
The event then continued with an exchange of views among participants.
